Aluminum Softball Bats
provide more Power

Bats come in a variety of materials. Aluminum softball bats and graphite/titanium lined bats are very popular. Wood bats are not used very often. Only a few leagues require wood bats for safety reasons.

Aluminum and aluminum improved with other alloys are the most popular bats. They provide a lighter weight and therefore more bat speed. They also offer more durability than wood bats.

Aluminum bats come in single and double layer construction. Double layer construction offers more durability and power.

Graphite and titanium are added to thinner wall aluminum bats. This makes them lighter and increases swing speed. These materials also increase durability and help reduce vibration.

To select the proper bat length, you need to consider your age, height and weight. Bat length ranges from 24" to 34". For example, if you weigh between 70-100 pounds, the bat length should be about 28" to 31", depending on your height.

To select the right weight, you need to consider your strength and your hitting style. Younger players should select a lighter model. Often bats have a weight to length ratio indicated. For example, a 32" model with a -4 ratio, weighs 28 ounces (32-4).

The standard softball bat diameter is 2 1/2 inches. For fastpitch the standard is 2 3/4 inches. The standard bats are tapered 31/32".
