Popular Northern White
Ash Baseball Bats

Major League baseball allows only wood bats, like northern white ash baseball bats. The bats cannot be drilled and filled with a lighter substance like cork. In all other baseball leagues, both wood and aluminum bats are allowed.

Northern white ash is a strong and light wood. Maple bats have become more popular since Barry Bonds had great success with them in 2001. Maple bats are also very durable.

When choosing a bat, you need to consider the level of play and in what league it will be used. For example, in High School, the bat cannot be more than 2 5/8 inches in diameter. The weight to length ratio cannot be more than a -3. The negative number indicates the weight of the bat. A 30 inch bat with a -3, weighs 27 ounces.

In Little League the limitations are as follows:

12 year old - 2 1/4 inch diameter, 33 inch length
13 - 16 years- 2 3/4 inch diameter, 34 inch length
16 - 18 years- 2 3/4 inch diameter, 38 inch length

Northern white ash bats cost about $50.
