Choose Outfielder Baseball
Gloves that are right for you


Outfielder baseball gloves are five finger gloves and are usually 12-13 inches long. They have deeper pockets to help catch fly balls. Most outfielders prefer open web gloves, because they hold the ball better.



There are two types of backs, open or closed. Outfielders prefer a closed back with a finger hole for more support.

Most gloves have a fit system to get a better fit. There are several adjustment types available. A Velcro strap lets you make an adjustment fast. A buckle system adjusts the glove with a buckle.

Most leather gloves need to broken in. Some gloves are made with oil tanned leather to reduce the break in time. Synthetic leather is usually flexible enough and don't need a break in.

Proper conditioning of your glove will extend its life. You can use petroleum jelly or a special conditioner. See Baseball Glove Break In

Playing in hot humid conditions will make your hands sweaty and your glove wet. Quality gloves have a treated fabric liner to absorb perspiration. You can also wear a batting glove under your fielding glove that will absorb sweat.



Examples of outfield gloves:

The Louisville Slugger TPX Pro baseball gloves cost about $146. They feature a conventional open back and tanned leather for better feel and durability. They are oil treated for a faster break in and for a softer feel.

The Rawlings Gold 12 3/4 inch outfield models cost about $85-110. They feature quality leather construction and deer tanned cowhide finger lining.

The Mizuno MVP series gloves feature tanned steer hide leather that provides softness and durability. The leather is oiled to provide game ready flexibility. Price is about $90.

Easton gloves are offered for adult and youth players. Adult models cost up to $200, while youth models cost about $25-30.
